Note to Poshmark Sellers: How to Make Sure Your Listings Surface Higher in the Beni Algorithm
Everything you need to know to make sure your listings show up in the #1 spot!
TLDR: If you only have 60 seconds, here are the basics…
Try to refrain from adding additional keywords to the product title, outside of the brand and product name (and color/gender/size where it makes sense for you) as it muddles our ability to match on text on the product page (e.g. "Patagonia Nano Puff Jacket, Size Large" will perform worse than "Patagonia Nano Puff Jacket").
Use stock photo as the hero image and then include actual product photos. Our buyers tend to be more confident and checkout at a higher rate when actual photos of the product are included.
Original price and listing price are quite important, especially since resale buyers are very influenced by discount. From our research, we've seen that a 30% discount is where shoppers are most intrigued and willing to make a secondhand purchase.
Some good news to start — Poshmark listings tend to outperform other marketplaces because of the way the data is structured in Poshmark, and the culture that Poshmark sellers have created for leading by example with stock photos and relevant product names. Poshmark sellers tend to use stock images and exact product titles already, and Poshmark provides a bucketed list of sizes and colors and categories to choose from that our algorithm already understands.
But in certain instances where the different fields are left blank, it can be difficult for us to appropriately identify the product category, gender, color, and size, which could significantly hinder the ability for the listing to be surfaced at the time when it's most relevant. So here are some tips and tricks to make sure that your listings show up in the best possible spot!
Put the stock photo first!
Use stock photo as the hero image as much as you can, and then have additional photos to show actual product + wear and tear.
Include actual photos as well! Our buyers tend to be more confident and checkout at a higher rate when actual photos of the product are included.
If the stock photo is not of a person wearing the product, then include also a photo of how the product looks on a person. We all know that those hanger shots don’t always do it justice.
What to put in (and leave out) of the product title:
For the product title, try to use the exact same name of the product, being as specific as you can, e.g. "Reformation Twilight Dress". Your search will perform better than just putting "Reformation Dress".
Adding brand in the product title in addition to the brand field can help in some cases, since we weight so heavily on brand.
DO NOT add additional product information to the product title, as it relates to condition (e.g. "NWOT Reformation Twilight Dress" will perform worse than "Reformation Twilight Dress"), but definitely put the condition in the description for the shopper and if there is a field for it, add it there too.
DO NOT add additional product information to the product title, as it relates to size (e.g. "Patagonia Nano Puff Jacket, Size Large" will perform worse than "Patagonia Nano Puff Jacket". This is the case for the Beni Extension, however, your listing might actually perform better for searchable site (coming this fall!).1
DO NOT add additional product information to the product title, as it relates to gender (e.g. "Patagonia Men's Nano Puff Jacket" will perform worse than "Patagonia Nano Puff Jacket"). The only case where it is valuable to add gender to the product title is if there is not a place for you to add gender as a product attribute. If you can't add it as a product attribute, then it is very important that it is found in the product title or product category.
Adding color to the product title will not benefit you for Beni Extension, however, adding the color to the product title can help for searchable site if you use the exact naming of the color in the title (e.g. "Reformation Twilight Dress Emerald" vs. "Reformation Twilight Dress Green").
Try to refrain from adding additional keywords to the product title, outside of the brand and product name (and color/gender/size where it makes sense for you) as it muddles our ability to match on text on the product page.
Which product attributes are most important?
Make sure you put the appropriate category (including appropriate gender). If the category/gender is wrong, it will not be findable by Beni. The subcategory is less important.
Add brand if you know it, but leave it blank if you don't. Adding brand will help significantly because we add brand weights to our algorithm. Make sure you spellcheck!
Size - definitely add this if you know it. It's convenient that Poshmark has the appropriate size bins, because sizes with additional keywords attached, as-is the case for other peer-to-peer marketplaces, can make it quite difficult for us to predict the product size. In instances where size field is blank, don't put any extra keywords, e.g. don't put "women's 8" for size, only put "8" and put "women" in gender. If non-US sizes, put the country in abbreviation beforehand (e.g. "IT 40", "UK 38")
Color - definitely add this if you know it. Again, it's convenient that Poshmark has the appropriate color bins that are aligned with Beni's color bins because it's easier for us to identify the color. For instances where the color field is blank, use Beni's color bins in the color field instead of the brand's name of the color, e.g. "green" will work better than "emerald" or "mystique"
Original price and listing price are quite important, especially since resale buyers are very influenced by discount. From our research, we've seen that a 30% discount is where shoppers are most intrigued and willing to make a secondhand purchase.
Style tags don't matter to us, but they probably help your Poshmark listings get surfaced higher!
Note that this might change in the future, given that we’ll start to pull in some logic from searchable site into the Beni extension.
