#50 This trend at NYFW stole the show
Our biggest takeaway from New York Fashion Week and the top designers supporting sustainability.
Last week, I got to attend Remake’s “Walk Your Values” Fashion Show at New York Fashion Week.
Amid the heavy lineup of designers at NYFW focused on showcasing their take on next spring’s sartorial trends, this show celebrated entirely pre-loved, upcycled and vintage fashion.
And it was a huge hit — as evidenced by the crowd of sustainability enthusiasts who filled the multi-story Delancey venue.
Kate touched on this last week, but one of the main reasons this show was so successful is that the old stigma around buying and wearing used is no more.
On the contrary, people love showing off their fashion finds that have been thoughtfully thrifted, curated or remade.
So, in that vein, here are some of the designers and brands who used NYFW to do just that.
Collina Strada - In a show that quite literally reminded viewers to “touch grass”, Collina Strada delivered colorful, playful designs created with deadstock and recycled materials.
Eckhaus Latta - A longtime leader in transparent production processes and the use of recycled materials, Eckhaus Latta made sustainability look effortlessly cool.
Proenza Schouler - The brand known for its minimalist elegance worked to incorporate more eco-friendly materials into its collections, proving you don’t have to sacrifice style for sustainability.
Grace Ling - This designer is basically living in 2050 already. Her futuristic designs created with 3D printing not only cut down on waste but also showcased what’s possible when tech and fashion collide.
Rentrayage - Erin Beatty of Rentrayage showed us just how creative sustainability can be by turning vintage fabrics into beautiful one-of-a-kind creations.
Ronald van der Kemp - AKA “the world’s first ethical couture brand”, Ronald van der Kemp celebrated his tenth year of turning discarded textiles into absolute luxury.

Loved the designs from Ronald van der Kemp. I hope to see NYFW adopt similar minimum sustainability standards as Copenhagen Fashion Week
