#49 Not your mother's resale
Takeaways from a fireside chat at Poshfest on why resale is one of our best tools to combat overproduction and fast fashion.
Last week, I had the honor of speaking at PoshFest (Poshmark’s annual conference) about the future of the secondhand industry, so I figured I'd share some of my key points with you as well.
One of the reasons I'm so energized by what we're building at Beni is that I believe resale is one of our best tools to combat overproduction and fast fashion.
Here're a few reasons why:
#1: It’s the fastest fashion out there. The clothes already exist! The challenge is matching supply to demand more efficiently (and we’re on it at Beni).
#2: Resale delivers a sustainability win—without needing a mindset shift. People don’t have to shop secondhand for the planet; they do it for the deals. You get access to better brands at lower prices—it just makes sense.
#3: The future of fashion is social, and resale is already leading the way. People love buying from other people. There’s a real, growing community in resale that fast fashion can’t fake.
#4: Now’s the time. The old stigma around buying used is out the window. People love to say, “Thanks, it’s thrifted,” and that cultural pride is driving serious momentum for investment and innovation in the resale space.
