#45 The dupe math isn't mathing
If you've ever been tempted to buy a dupe, you should probably read this.
It seems like dupes are everywhere these days, but for those of you who’ve managed to steer clear of the ubiquitous trend, here you go:
Dupe (/do͞op/): A cheaper version of popular, in-demand products.
Sounds too good to be true, right? Well, according to the numbers — it is.
Before we dive in, we want to point out that we totally get the appeal of dupes. They let you tap into of-the-moment fashion at prices that are seemingly more affordable than the real thing.
Take the Skims Fits Everybody Tee Amazon dupe for example. According to this TikTok, it looks and feels exactly like the the version Kim K. endorses.
And, at $19.99, it’s 58% less expensive than the original.
But if you head to the comment section, you’ll quickly learn that this dupe won’t last beyond the first wash, meaning its cost-per-wear is also $19.99.
So, what can you do? Well, if you use Beni to find a resale alternative while shopping on Skims, you’ll have to pay slightly more than the Amazon version…
BUT, because you’ll be able to wear the shirt many more times (AI estimates 20 wears on average), your cost-per-wear drops significantly to $1.40.
And, if you’re still not convinced, the graph below shows the resale price of these tees over time, along with the number of new resale listings added to our database each month.
Based on the increasing amount of these shirts available on resale sites, you’ll likely soon be able to save even more by buying them secondhand (which is still “new-with/without-tags” in most cases).
So, do yourself a favor — forget the dupe, and get the real deal for less, with Beni.

Community Spotlight: Vendoo
Who they are: The #1 tool for resellers.
What they do: The online platform allows resellers to crosslist their inventory to 11 marketplaces at once.
Why we're talking about them: As resale becomes increasingly the norm, tools like Vendoo are paramount in reducing the friction for people to participate in the circular economy. By making it easier for resellers to manage their inventory, keep track of sales and delist sold listings, Vendoo is helping to clean up much of the resale inventory available. The cleaner this data gets, the better Beni will be able to show shoppers relevant resale deals while they shop.
